New River Gorge Bridge

New River Bridge Night Known as the “Gateway” to Southern West Virginia, the New River Gorge Bridge is West Virginia’s most famous landmark. The bridge is the longest steel arch bridge in the world and the second highest. The bridge’s arch is 900 feet and has a length of more than 3,000 feet and is a man-made marvel of engineering and construction. New River Gorge Bridge lures daredevils from all over the globe for bungee jumping on Bridge Day, the one day in October that it is legal to jump from the bridge. If you aren’t quite up to jumping off the bridge, you can walk across this engineering marvel and peer directly down at the New River from the catwalk on the Bridge Walk tours available year round. The bridge climb experience is a new and exciting opportunity for you to actually walk out on the underside of the bridge on what used to be a service and inspection only catwalk. Don’t worry, you will be professionally guided and expertly harnessed to the bridge with no chance of falling. For the less daring, the fall scenery and Hiking near the bridge rivals any in New England, and springtime at the Bridge presents a glorious display of flowering trees and greenery.

New River Gorge Bridge Day The New River Gorge Bridge Day occurs once a year in October. It is the largest single one day festival in the State of west Virginia. Over 200,000 people have turned out for this event in the past to enjoy the food, the arts and crafts, and especially the sight of BASE jumpers leaping off the New River Gorge Bridge with only parachutes preventing a crash landing in the river below. The parachutes themselves are beautiful as well as exciting. Come white water rafting on the Lower New River Gorge and end your day under the bridge to watch this spectacle.
