Bridge Day is a one day festival in West Virginia where they allow BASE jumpers to legally parachute off of the New River Gorge Bridge. Bridge Day WV is the largest single day event in West Virginia, with over 150,000 people turning out to watch the parachutists, and enjoy the food and crafts for sale on the top deck of the bridge. The New River Gorge Bridge Day occurs once a year in October. It is the largest single one day festival in the State of west Virginia. Over 200,000 people have turned out for this event in the past to enjoy the food, the arts and crafts, and especially the sight of BASE jumpers leaping off the New River Gorge Bridge with only parachutes preventing a crash landing in the river below. The parachutes themselves are beautiful as well as exciting. Come white water rafting on the Lower New River Gorge and end your day under the bridge to watch this spectacle.
Bridge day WV is a tribute to man and nature. The New River Gorge Bridge and West Virginia holds a festival one day a year during the third weekend of October to celebrate this modern marvel. On Bridge day, it is legal to BASE jump with parachutes from the Bridge and rappel from the cat walk. People from all over the globe come to watch and even participate in this high angle spectacle. Along with watching or participating, you may also enjoy the fair along the roadway on the top of the bridge which hosts local craft venders. One of the best views of Bridge Day is from a New River Rafting trip which will launch upstream, paddle the Lower New and end the day directly under the New River Bridge for a stunning view of the BASE Jumping action.
